The mission of the MacBeth Concert Series is “to enrich the cultural life of Chebeague by producing a series of classical music and jazz concerts each summer.” For over 20 years, the series has thrilled island audiences with an eclectic mix of world-renowned artists--such as Sebago Long Lake Music Festival, Tyler Putnam and Sarah Nordin, concert pianist Diane Walsh and Grammy winners the New York Voices—and local favorites such as the Novel Jazz Septet and the Seaside Brass Quintet. In 2022, the series added a program directed at children performed by the Halcyon String Quartet. The season, which typically includes six or seven concerts, runs from late-June to late-August. Most concerts are held at the Chebeague Community Church; one or two each summer, though, are performed at such outdoor venues as the Chebeague Island School yard. The series is primarily supported by generous gifts from concert-goers, but has also received grants from the Recompense Fund and the Raymond Family Foundation.
The MacBeth Concert Series is guided by an eight-person Steering Committee, whose Chair is Carl Tubbesing and whose Treasurer is John Howard. The series is under the umbrella of the Chebeague Island Community Association, which serves as MacBeth’s fiscal agent. The Steering Committee is deeply grateful to CICA’s Treasurer Bob Earnest for his indispensable encouragement and support.
